Audio Book Summary

INSPIRATION FOR THE ORIGINAL SERIES THE LINCOLN LAWYER – THE #1 TV SHOW ON NETFLIX

Defense attorney Mickey Haller and Detective Harry Bosch must either work together or die as they investigate a Hollywood lawyer's murder in this "epic page-turner" (Library Journal).   Things are finally looking up for defense attorney Mickey Haller. After two years of wrong turns, Haller is back in the courtroom. When Hollywood lawyer Jerry Vincent is murdered, Haller inherits his biggest case yet: the defense of Walter Elliott, a prominent studio executive accused of murdering his wife and her lover. But as Haller prepares for the case that could launch him into the big time, he learns that Vincent's killer may be coming for him next.

Enter Harry Bosch. Determined to find Vincent's killer, he is not opposed to using Haller as bait. But as danger mounts and the stakes rise, these two loners realize their only choice is to work together.

Michael Connelly introduces the meeting of his well known protagonists: detective Harry Bosch and "Lincoln Lawyer" Michael Haller. The plot is rooted more in the legal process and this brings a refreshing change to the detective stories that envelope the Harry Bosch series. Connelly novels had started to become stale in my opinion and I see this effort as a welcome renewal. I recommend that you read this book so that you are properly introduced to the nuances of how Connelly has set up this new literary relationship and especially since the Bosch/Haller interaction should become Connelly's new platform to write his future novels. He has created two independent and strong characters in Bosch and Haller. Now we get a "two for one" experience.

For fans of Michael Connelly, this novel documents the long awaited meeting of half-brothers Mikey Haller and Harry Bosch, lawyer and detective, respectively. With Haller being the narrator, we only get peripheral glimpses of Harry and never get to know much about his approach (or typical internal conflicts) to solving the killing of a private defense attorney until the end of the book. Thus, this is a solid continuation of Connelly's The Lincoln Lawyer, with a cameo by Bosch.

I usually reserve ebooks for driving. As I got into the final chapters, that wasn't enough, and I found myself sitting at home listening to the last hours. It was a page-turner I couldn't leave alone.

I loved this book. Great Court room drama. Characters well developed.

Loved the book and the courtroom strategy insights, though some of the legal procedural details were questionable. The narrator did a good job reading but tended to speak as if he was a tough street cop, spitting out sarcastic tough-guy comments, even when the narration didn't call for that tone. It was kind of distracting.

Some of the best writing and realistic characters since John Grisham. I've seen one movie made from the books, "The Lincoln Lawyer". Narration is also quite good...intoxicating. Make more Haller movies, PLEASE!! 5 stars, all around.
