I spent 24 hour listening to rambling of what white is or what a whale was or what a whale was supposed to look like in drawings. For three hours of actually the actual hunting of Moby Dick. I'm not sure what about this makes it a classic but it was a colossal waste of my time.

I never knew how funny this book was until the privilege of listening on audiobooks, 5 stars for that Narrator!

Although this classic might not be to the liking of some modern tastes, that prefer more action and less information, I personally found the book worthy of its praises. Yes, indeed, it does cover in detail all kinds of factors that do not “move the story along”, it’s wit and extraordinary knowledge of items and practices that have otherwise passed into obscurity, make it both a pleasure and educational read. In some ways, I feel like in the process of reading the book, I myself have been on a long journey.

What an adventure I’ve been on listening to this book. I loved it. Tremendously well read. I felt like giving the narrator a standing ovation for ploughing through this enormous book with such care and concern. It’s such a monumental book. Well worth the time invested. Brilliant. Clever. Witty and with lots of insights into life and death snd everything in between.

Looong prolog to the ratively quick and final encounter. Lots of vignettes of the various characters, and in-depth insight into the whaling industry of the 1800s. Narrator was excellent... kept voices with characters, not a glitch or mistake to be heard. Accompanied me over hours of walks.

Tremendous book.

Of course the book is an utter marvel in each of its many facets. And this narration is top notch.

Great narration for the book. Felt like it was transferred from a tape but still good. Book dragged quite a bit. Half the story is not story but the whaling Wikipedia page of skeletal structure and butcher methods mixed with what is a whale? A white whale? What is white? What is the sea? What of Ahab and his monomaniacal quest across the earth and what is the earth but a ship afloat the the sea of the heavens? And what of the 24 hours you'll spend on a story that could be abridged to a novella.

The narrator did such a good job I thought I mean I’m sure I would have imagined some of the voices differently yet he did a good job on most and a darn good job on ahab. Plus the quality of the recording is good. What a crazy story. I mean obviously Melville goes off the deep end in descriptions but as some of them are fascinating and others sort of drab I’m sure other people see them in the reverse light. Yet still I love how the story has very little to do with the whale. In some ways it is primarily about hunting him but the underlying themes give me a sense of maturity developed through listening that I had previously been lacking. Leaves a lot to think about too. Worth my time even as hard trucking as it is sometimes.
