Audio Book Summary

NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES

Dear Reader,

If you have not read anything about the Baudelaire orphans, then before you read even one more sentence, you should know this: Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are kindhearted and quick-witted, but their lives, I am sorry to say, are filled with bad luck and misery. All of the stories about these three children are unhappy and wretched, and this one may be the worst of them all.If you haven't got the stomach for a story that includes a hurricane, a signalling device, hungry leeches, cold cucumber soup, a horrible villain, and a doll named Pretty Penny, then this book will probably fill you with despair.I will continue to record these tragic tales, for that is what I do. You, however, should decide for yourself whether you can possibly endure this miserable story.

With all due respect,

Lemony Snicket

I have the 2nd book on cassette ad it is so much better when Tim Curry reads. I jut can't get over the authors lisp.

First of all, Lemony Snickett needs to let Tim Curry do all of his narrating. I'm sure it's indulgent to hear your own voice reading your own work, but he doesn't entertain like Mr. Curry. The story wore on me after awhile- I know that it is early in the series, but it got so depressing, I really didn't want to read another one too soon.

I love the Lemony Snicket books, and this was one of my favorites. I do wish there had been more consistency in volume with the narration, however.

Good book. However, the narrator reading was awful. The sound was ridiculously low and the effort to make the story dramatic by reading high and low only caused a strain on our ears even with the volume on the radio and phone at its maximum.

Great book... My son and I loved it. So glad we got this application.

I hope everyone knows that (although I agree that Tim Curry is phenomenal at reading these unfortunate events) the narrator for book 3-5 is the author... Just sayin'. I think he did just fine, and if you don't like it just wait it out until you get to book 6, and Tim curry will enter your ears once again.

The review that said "Tim Curry should read this" is bang on the money. Sound was uneven and the reader faded out because of dramatic intent. Good story; bad delivery.
