Audio Book Summary

NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES

I hope, for your sake, that you have not chosen to read this book because you are in the mood for a pleasant experience. If this is the case, I advise you to put this book down instantaneously, because of all the books describing the unhappy lives of the Baudelaire orphans, The Miserable Mill might be the unhappiest yet. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are sent to Paltryville to work in a lumber mill, and they find disaster and misfortune lurking behind every log. The pages of this book, I'm sorry to inform you, contain such unpleasantries as a giant pincher machine, a bad casserole, a man with a cloud of smoke where his head should be, a hypnotist, a terrible accident resulting in injury, and coupons. I have promised to write down the entire history of these three poor children, but you haven't, so if you prefer stories that are more heartwarming, please feel free to make another selection.

With all due respect,

Lemony Snicket

Enjoyed the book, but I did not like the narrator. We turned up the volume on the phone and the radio in the car and at some pints we still had a difficult time hearing the book.

Once again, Lemony Snickett is not the narrator needed; the sound is unbearably uneven (loud one minute, inaudible the next) to the point of distracting from the wit of the writing. I've had to turn the volume up as high as the CD player will go just to hear what's being said. VERY disappointing.

I enjoyed this book. It is something I can listen to in the car along with the children.

I did not enjoy this nearly as much as the first two. First and foremost, I didnt like the reader. Awful! Especially since Tim Curry read the last book and is so wonderful at it. Secondly, I know it's a kids book but even in a kids book you wasnt to belive the story and some parts were just too outrageous. I do intend to read the rest of the series but this just book just wasnt the best.

Absolutley awful narrator. The voices he did were very one demensional, and very unenthusiastic. Tim Curry, who was the original narrator for the series did a much better job. The story was the only thing keeping me listening. Listen to the ones narrated by Tim Curry. Read this one. Don't listen to it.

This is a series that we've enjoyed reading as a family- and enjoy listening to the story on cd all over again. The actual story is what gives this book 3 stars, however, the person narrating the story- along with the lack of volume control of the original recording made the adults listening to the story on a long car trip cringe!!! There are better books in this series to listen to.
