Audio Book Summary

Private investigator Cormoran Strike must track down a missing writer -- and a sinister killer bent on destruction -- in this "wonderfully entertaining" mystery (Harlan Coben, New York Times Book Review) that inspired the acclaimed HBO Max series C.B. Strike.
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days -- as he has done before -- and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives -- meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him. When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, Strike must race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any he has encountered before . . . A compulsively readable crime novel with twists at every turn, The Silkworm is the second in J. K. Rowling's highly acclaimed series featuring Cormoran Strike and his determined young assistant, Robin Ellacott.

I really enjoyed the first book with the Lula Landry case, but I REALLY loved this second novel in the the Strike series. The author is so incredible at describing not only scenery to make it simple to see the story in the reader’s mind, but the way he builds each character so simply clear is what I love. You just get to know each one of them by his description of them, and it just makes me want to listen more and more. I will admit, at times, that my mind did trail off, but that’s only because of how in-depth the writing is while painting the whole picture for the reader. I still was able to follow, and I can’t WAIT to listen to it again to catch anything j may have missed. Great book. Loved it! I’m very excited about the third one!!!

Wondeful wonderful narrator, will be looking into other books he's narrated b/c he was so good. I REALLY liked this book. The writing is great and keeps you interested, even if it's tangenting off/ giving back story/ over describing scenery so you can really visualize it: i tend to skip over over described things that don't feel necessary to the story: but JK really knows how to keep it interesting and doesn't really describe too much that is not necessary, so I never have that issue. I liked this story a lot better than the first Strike book. The storyline/of the first book really weren't my normal type of mystery book; I tend to read historical fiction detective novels, and especially not when the topic talks about some high fashion celebrity types: I only read because JK wrote it: BUT I was still interested the whole time because of her writing style/ was engaging, and I liked Strike and Robins characters and really wanted to see where they would go, so even though I didn't LOVE the storyline from the first one, it was enticing enough and I wanted to read this one. This storyline, while still not historical fiction, was still more my type of storyline. It does get a little gross at times and I worried how much more that would follow: but it stayed manageable and I was really surprised at the twist and couldn't wait to get back in my car to commute to continue listening.

I did not like this book as much as the first one in the series. The story was hard to follow and not that interesting. I still really like the narrartor, though.
