Audio Book Summary

The masterpiece that started Terry Goodkind's New York Times bestselling epic Sword of Truth

In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher's forest sanctuary seeking help . . . and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.

In a dark age it takes courage to live, and more than mere courage to challenge those who hold dominion, Richard and Kahlan must take up that challenge or become the next victims. Beyond awaits a bewitching land where even the best of their hearts could betray them. Yet, Richard fears nothing so much as what secrets his sword might reveal about his own soul. Falling in love would destroy them--for reasons Richard can't imagine and Kahlan dare not say.

In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword--to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed . . . or that their time has run out.

Wizard's First Rule is the beginning. One book. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.

The last time I read this book was the third reading I believe. It has been many years, and because of VERY negative reviews I avoided the audio books. After all, I know the story very well. There is nothing wrong with this title and I have enjoyed it. The only thing in the more critical reviews that I find to be true is that the narrator did scare me a time or two. He really takes the dramatic and suspenseful scenes quite seriously.

Love the book. The narrator just scared me couple of times as he screamed through the book.

The narrator was overly dramatic especially at all the unnecessary moments...but then again he tried his best and there wasn't much he can do with such a linear and pedantic story. It was like Lord of the Rings watered down with stock characters, unimaginative names, predictable plot, and a boring villain. Can't believe this is a whole series...

I have read these books a couple of times and this narrator was amazing. I could picture the intent of every word.

So much....too much.... everything....it feels like the author decided to put every plot or fantasy trope into one book. The characters are cookie cutter bland and predictable, same with the plot. Overdone emotionality and bad dialogue. Lots is self righteous idiocy on display. Props to you if you can get through it. chapter 26 I just decided to look up the ending because I couldn't deal with the overly predictable plot movement anymore. Let me tell you I needn't have bothered. It ended the way I thought it would when I was at about chapter 15....
