Title: Proof of the Existence of God and an Afterlife.
Description:
"Bierhorst, R. G., Seera, B. L. and Jannifer, R. P. ‘Proof of the Existence of God and an Afterlife.’ Journal of Experimental Psychology. Volume 95, Spring, 2007, pages 32-36."
This story was first published in Asimov’s Science Fiction, August, 1998.
According to David Soyka, James Patrick Kelly's take on the God question seems to provide a more hopeful answer. His depiction of an otherwise exceptionally mundane psychological experiment that ends up with verifiable evidence proving the existence of God and an afterlife has the characteristics of a classic Twilight Zone episode.

Colonization is the theme of this exciting, complex page-turner that provides a provocative and entertaining look at Thoreau's classic eco-text Walden. Eccentric billionaire Jack Winter has bought the planet Beekman's Pea, renamed it Walden, and created a utopia in which members renounce the technologies of human civilization. Marginalized by these newcomers, the planet's original inhabitants are resisting the colony's dominance by setting fires to Walden's artificial ecology. A member of Walden, Prosper Gregory Leung is a veteran firefighter who believes in protecting Winter's utopian vision, but when he is wounded, he begins to learn of the terrible price that the people of Walden are paying for their paradise. Interwoven with themes of environmental responsibility, political struggle, and courage, this adventure novel nimbly combines political and social relevance with a flawless and gripping narrative from a veteran science fiction author. Voltaire

Title: Voltaire
Description:
Voltaire, considered one of the most influential figures of his time, was a French Enlightenment writer whose works criticized religious dogma and the institutions of his day. First published in 1752, Micromegas features an ancient, 120,000 foot tall alien from a planet circling the star Sirius and his 6,000 foot tall companion from the planet Saturn. Together, they travel to the Earth via sun-powered interstellar flight. The visitors have a great deal of difficulty recognizing humanity and communicating with the planet's microscopic inhabitants; and the story serves to illustrate that humankind has an inflated idea of its own importance in the universe. In Plato's Dream (1756), Voltaire's protagonist dreams that the entities that created the solar system are less than perfect. In the tale, the superbeing responsible for the Earth's design must endure the ridicule of his peers, and admit that there was much moral and physical evil in his work Even though the story is presented as a merely a dream, Voltaire's tale would have been considered heretical, even blasphemous, by the Church of his day. Micromegas and Plato's Dream were both early precursors of the genre of Science Fiction.
