Audio Book Summary

How can you handle the narcissistic people in your life? They're
frustrating (and maybe even intimidating) to deal with. You might need to interact with some of them in social or professional settings, and you might even love one-so sometimes it just doesn't work to simply ignore them. You need to find a way of communicating effectively with
narcissists, getting your point across and meeting your needs while
side-stepping unproductive power struggles and senseless arguments. Disarming the Narcissist offers a host of effective strategies for dealing effectively with someone who is at the center of his or her own universe.Disarming the Narcissist will show you how to move past the narcissist's defenses using compassionate, empathetic communication. You'll learn how narcissists view the world, how to navigate their coping styles, and why, oftentimes, it's sad and lonely being a narcissist. By learning to anticipate and avoid certain hot-button issues, you'll be able to relate to narcissists without triggering aggression. By validating some common narcissistic concerns, you'll find out how to be heard in conversation with a narcissist. Finally, you'll learn how to set limits with your narcissist and when it's time to draw the line on unacceptable behavior.

If you are looking for a technical book with technical language, like maladaptive schemas, used over and over, and 18 point checklists you need a notebook to record and analyze, this book is for you. If you are looking to listen to something meaningful and perhaps empathetic for what you may be experiencing, this is not it. This would have been a fantastic book to help me write a paper for my psych degree; now trying to figure out my narcissist and what to do about him, this was of little help. The technical writing of the book was made even more difficult by the narrator who had a stilted and mechanical tone. There were a few tidbits I gleaned before giving up on this book; perhaps it got better toward the end.

I found this tedious, and the narrator really had to grow on me. Ultimately, it confirmed what I already knew about the narcissist in my life but didn’t add to my knowledge.

The content of the book was very good. The narrator had good inflection in voice and was not boring, but she sounded a little robotic.

This book is fantastic. However the person reading the audiobook has a voice that sounds unnatural and is like a computer. It is very annoying .. she pauses at unnatural spots in the sentences. I'm at the last half of the book right now and I just want to get it done because it's driving me crazy. Unfortunately I don't just stop, because this book by Wendy Behary is fantastic. I recommend it but only as a paper book.

Great content - very well written. The intonation of the narrator was a bit flat, left something to be desired.
