Audio Book Summary

In the first book to explore the religious ideals and background of the 43rd president of the United States, The Faith of George W. Bush discusses how Bush's spiritual beliefs shape his private life as well as drive his policies and politics. More than any other presidency in recent years, George W. Bush's presidency is 'faith based.' He has often said that faith saved his life, nurtured his family, established his political career, and helped form the destiny of the nation. Discover how Bush incorporates his faith and belief in God into every detail of life. From his devotional time alone each morning to his frequent use of Scripture in his speeches, the president relies upon his faith to direct his actions and goals. The Faith of George W. Bush recounts Bush's conversion to Christianity in 1986, when he overcame a growing dependence on alcohol by turning to the Bible to save his marriage and family. From the tragedy of September 11 to the conflict in Iraq, President Bush has learned to use his faith to help him live his public and private life. This revealing book will inspire others to do the same.

This is actually a good biography of Bush. I was pleasantly surprised. It kept me engaged. I think it showed a very personal side of someone we only see from a public perspective. It gave a lot of details regarding his faith and the impact it has had on his life, which is what i was interested in the most. But it largely focuses on his life story, weaving his faith into that main story.

I just read a previous review by Greg Newby from Memphis, TN. How can two people read the same book and conclude two totally opposite opinions? It was not an autobiography. It was an account of his spiritual journey and the way he dealt with events on that jouryey. This book gives one an excellent insight into what motivates George Bush. You may not agree with his policies or faith practices, but knowing what motivates a man can help you understand where he is coming from. It was an excellent read.

If George W. Bush does any praying at all, it's to the almighty dollar. That's what makes this piece of audio-fiction so outrageously funny. Christianity is a rhetorical device for a man who can't even spell 'rhetorical.' I remember Christ saying something about not praying out where everyone can see you, but to do it privately, in your closet. So why does Bushy Boy wear his righteousness on his sleeve? It's because he's doing the very thing that Christ wanted us to avoid: using religion for other purposes. In his case, the purpose is to justify his corrupt policies and make the Christian right believe that he is being led by the Holy Spirit, so that nothing he he says or does can be questioned or criticized. Well, if Bush is being personally led by God, then I can tell you exactly what God looks like. He's rectangular, made of paper, has a mixture of green and black ink, and bears a picture of George Washington on his front.
