Audio Book Summary

Fortuna Sworn is the last of her kind. Her brother disappeared two years ago, leaving her with no family or species to speak of. She hides among humans, spending her days working at a bar and her nights searching for him. The bleak pattern goes on and on... until she catches the eye of a powerful faerie. He makes no attempt to hide that he desires Fortuna. And in exchange for her, he offers something irresistible. So Fortuna reluctantly leaves her safe existence behind to step back into a world of creatures and power. But it soon becomes clear that she may not have bargained with her heart but her very life...

Not bad overall. I enjoyed the narrator, the story started off well and kept my interest throughout. I will agree with others that the main character sounds like a complaining teenager and is difficult to connect with as a reader. And so many of the other characters seem to have unclear motivations that were left unanswered throughout the book. I suppose thats why there are sequels...

This book surprised me. The story has a lot of twists that keep you guessing. The narrator has done a wonderful job with the characters.

Before you get your hopes up thinking it's a great story: it's a romance novel. If I'd been able to discern that from the description I would never have purchased this. Seriously, it's what my grandmother used to call "a bodice ripper". The narrator is lovely, but I am in chapter five and there's already been men so beautiful that they'll melt your eyes...women who are amazingly strong, yet weakened by a handsome face...jeez. Insert eye roll right here.

Honestly I was surprisingly happy to the point of continuing the series. I was only looking for a free book to listen to while I wait the few more days until I get my next credits so I can continue on the book series I am in the middle of so when I saw this on my VIP I had no expectations. I am really happy I have a rule of not reading these reviews until after I have tried to listen to it myself because I tend to hear the comments in my mind as I listen to the book. So not only did I like this but I spent the $14.95 to get book 2 and I am about to buy book 3 and I still haven't finished my original series. The narrator - given the subject matter and the age of the character I feel she fits well. I have no issues with her.

So bad I couldn’t finish. The narration is horrible, sounds like a constantly annoyed teenager newscaster. The story itself is empty, immature and utterly superficial.
