I am going to see Anne LaMott speak in a couple of weeks, so I thought I would read as many of her books as I could beforehand. I listened to this one in the car and it kept me afloat and smiling and stable at a time when I was having issues with a co-worker. In fact, I listened to the whole book twice because I couldn't bear to let go of her. So many stories she tells remind me of how I would try to hide from something or feel ashamed or slighted. And when she writes about these incidents, it confirms my understanding that we are all flawed and beautiful, ordinary and mystical, full of love, possibility, and some childishness that never goes away no matter how old we are. I just clung to her wisdom and laughed and cried in the car on my commute every day and was able to make it through a rough patch. Looove her.
