Audio Book Summary

Few entrepreneurs can claim to have radically changed the way we live, and Ray Kroc is one of them. His revolutions in food-service automation, franchising, shared national training, and advertising have earned him a place beside the men and women who have founded not only businesses, but entire empires. But even more interesting than Ray Kroc the business man is Ray Kroc the man. Not your typical self-made tycoon, Kroc was fifty-two years old when he opened his first franchise. In Grinding It Out, you'll meet the man behind McDonald's, one of the largest fast-food corporations in the world with over 32,000 stores around the globe.

An irrepressible enthusiast, intuitive people person, and born storyteller, Kroc will fascinate and inspire you.

Very well-told story overall, but the narration really brings it to life and imbues the historical figure's telling of his own life with just the right amounts of liveliness, perspective, and pathos. I don't think I would have found this title nearly as enjoyable in print or with a different narrator.

Good book. The other side of the story we got from "The Founder". Kroc and the McDonalds brothers were probably all jerks, but I loved hearing about the vision and the pursuit. I imagine all involved would be disappointed to see what McDonald's has become (core value cleanliness? Really???).

Fascinating, easy-listen, autobiography giving insight to the unrelenting spirit & purpoed steps of one man's (Ray Kroc) humble sales beginnings (1927) through entrepreneurship gone worldwide (along with the personal account of grit and sacrifice--personal, financial, physical--that goes with such a monumental drive and undertaking) while receiving a historical lesson on the making of McDonald's franchise empire (1960's-1976) and beyond (1980's into 2015 via Afterward chapter added at end of audiobook).

Very interesting book. Was fascinated to hear about Ray’s journey, challenges, and accomplishments. Well told and excellently narrated. Don’t think it would have been nearly as entertaining without such a good narrator.

Interesting book, but Ray Kroc comes off as a total narcissist
