Falling for the Playboy, book two in Kennedy Fox’s Bedtime Stories series was exactly what I needed. I found myself smiling a lot throughout and I couldn’t wait to see how long it took for Maverick and Olivia to break the rules and explore each other in the carnal sense!
Olivia, or Miss Priss as Maverick loves to call her, is a great female lead, and I love how the authors allowed an insider’s look from someone who works her butt off for an author in the publishing world. From Olivia’s perspective, readers see just how much time and effort go into promoting books and how much pressure it can be for an author to keep perfecting the craft, attracting new readers, which, in turn, makes an author’s assistant’s life hectic and more than a little time consuming. Olivia’s focus, for much of the story, is solely on her job, on her schedules, on her daily planners, on the gratuitous number of ‘jobs’ Rachel gives her, but when Maverick is forced into Olivia’s life, basically turning it upside down but also making her life and experience life outside of her job, Olivia starts to see what her life could be like if only she had the courage to be illogical and base decisions on her heart/emotions instead of her head/facts.
Maverick is all kind of hunky goodness, but what I love most about him is that he’s also a stand-up guy. He may flirt a little too much and enjoy female attention more so than other men, but it’s his charismatic demeanor that makes women flock to him and that’s something that just comes naturally to him. I loved getting inside his head and seeing exactly what he thought about Olivia, especially the moments when he started to realize that there is a lot more to the prissy author assistant than he originally thought. The way Maverick shows Olivia with texts/face time that they can make things work regardless of the long distance - that he has fallen for her and wants her in his life was so endearing and it truly showed readers who Maverick is beneath the six-pack abs and wicked smirk.
I love how Olivia and Maverick let down their grounds with each other and learned things about one another that most do not know about them. I could tell even at the onset of their cross country road trip that as much as they got on each other’s nerves and under one another’s skin, there was also a simmering attraction…a connection that allowed them to be who they are behind the personas they seem to always wear.
The narrators who voiced Olivia and Maverick, Vanessa Edwin and Aiden Snow, did a fantastic job in bringing these two characters to life. It was easy to sense the hero and heroine’s fluctuating emotions as the story progressed and the scenes with banter and steam allowed listeners to envision exactly what was occurring in these comical and sexy moments.
Falling for the Playboy by Kennedy Fox is an entertaining, endearing, and smexy read and listening to the audio version of it made a great story even better!
