Audio Book Summary

On the surface, the galaxy seems peaceful. Humankind prospers from the Capital World to the far reaches of The Corridor. But to those who can see the signs, it's clear something is wrong. Long, dark fingers are pulling strings inside the military, making clandestine deals with enemy states, and fulfilling some dark design. Calvin is an intelligence agent working for the Imperial government. He's young, his methods are unorthodox, but he gets results. So when a former military hero steals a warship and goes rogue--threatening to start a war, Calvin is sent to eliminate him. But as he chases his prey across the stars, he realizes they are both pawns in a shadowy chess game that shakes kingdoms, divides empires, and threatens civilization everywhere. And if he is to uncover the mystery and expose the conspiracy he must confront--and embrace--the darkest elements of the galaxy and throw himself, his career, and everyone he loves into the line of fire.

In spite of fine narration, I cannot recommend “The Phoenix Conspiracy.” I found the story ridiculous, and sometimes disgusting, with many credibility issues. Improbable images include “blood-soaked ground” aboard a starship and a drugged drink delivered via French kiss. Yech! The characters are NOT inspiring. Language and terminology are flawed. In addition, the author fails to grasp basic physics or to appreciate movement through three dimensions. I feel no urge to listen to the second volume of this series.

It started well, but degenerated into a kindergarten fight which could have been set in any scene. The science part was less believable, narration was good

The narrator bored me to tears. It was enough that every other chapter the volume would fluctuate. The cadence and energy used to deliver self reflecting moments, to subtle physical details of the ship, to bullets whizzing by and the panic of a ship about to self destruct.. All the same. Meh.
