Audio Book Summary

2018 GRAMMY® Winner for Best Spoken Word Album

The Princess Diarist is Carrie Fisher’s intimate, hilarious and revealing recollection of what happened behind the scenes on one of the most famous film sets of all time, the first Star Wars movie.   *PEOPLE Magazine Best Book of Fall 2016  *New York Times Bestseller *

When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her costar, Harrison Ford.

With these excerpts from her handwritten notebooks, The Princess Diarist is Fisher’s intimate and revealing recollection of what happened on one of the most famous film sets of all time—and what developed behind the scenes.  Fisher also ponders the joys and insanity of celebrity, and the absurdity of a life spawned by Hollywood royalty, only to be surpassed by her own outer-space royalty. Laugh-out-loud hilarious and endlessly quotable, The Princess Diarist brims with the candor and introspection of a diary while offering shrewd insight into the type of stardom that few will ever experience.

Very interesting account of the filming of the first Star Wars movie. Fisher reveals an affair with Harrison Ford she terms, "Carrison". Her daughter, Billie Lourde reads her personal diary from when she was a mere 20 years old and then she follows up with her own recollections. The book goes on to detail her favorite experiences with fans and her life as Princess Leia.

It was amazing hearing her voice and hearing her story. Made me a little sad because it reminded me how much I miss her. She was one of my heroes.

I'm not a Star Wars fan but I have always appreciated the excitement and enthusiasm with the folks that love this movie. That being said this was a pretty funny book. I'd recommend it especially on audio. Carrie herself really made me laugh out loud with her explanations and descriptions on the set and in her life after Star Wars. It was pleasant to hear someone so real and positive that handled the deck she was dealt.

It was a wonderful listen. She was hilarious and goes \'behind the scenes\' inside her head.

This is a wonderful book. Carrie Fisher is an accomplished author and this is her best. More than a dozen times I was struck by how much I wanted to tell her how much I enjoyed it and how much I felt like she and I would enjoy each other's company. Surely the same thing thought by thousands of fans but it's a feeling I knew she would understand, despite it's banality. This book showcases her sparkling, dry wit and amazing self clarity. I know the latter came at the great price of spending most of her life working to achieve it and proves how totally worthwhile that effort is. This book is not one to leave you crying because she has passed but joyous that she lived and that she shared. I highly recommend it to anyone, Star Wars fan or not. Carrie Fisher is the articulate poster child for those of us who overshare, perhaps in part, out of a mad hope that we are not alone. And, as she's proved many times, in many ways - we're not. Thank you, Carrie.
