I purchased this book prior to going to France and found it did not help me as quickly as other audiobooks. It really is not for an absolute beginner. The choices they make about which introductory phrases to share are not well chosen in my opinion. Nor did the book build upon phrases that were already taught. New words were constantly introduced and it was difficult in the first go round to figure out which part of the sentence meant what - even with their repetitions. It was a lot easier to understand this book after I had practiced with other beginner tapes. This tape was better for an intermediate learner who had familiarity with the language and who wasn't looking for key phrases to know just prior to a trip. In addition, other language audiotapes leave space for you to repeat things aloud. This tape did not. Personally, I prefer to have the space to push myself to orally repeat the language. The tape had a lot of musical accompaniment which was sometimes a bit loud and made some of the phrases harder to hear. I have listened to this tape three times, and the good news is I always learn something new. However, it's my least favorite French audiobook in my collection. I find with their method of teaching that I just forget the random phrases they teach instead of holding onto them in my memory.
