Second entry in the main series, picks up several years after Revelation space ends. This book is split into two main narratives, one following Ilya and Ana in the Resurgam system, and the second fro the viewpoint of the Conjioner faction around Yellowstone. The former is pretty slow for most of the book and serves mostly to set up the reason for the second one. Although the characters are bit more engaging this time around, Reynolds' also throws in a half-baked romance. The second narrative is nice change in viewpoint, and really takes big steps in opening up the central mystery of the series. It's fascinating to learn more about the conjoiners and the history of the threat they face. There's an actual tangible villain this time around, and Skade is a chilling character. If you've read Chasm City, a nice nod to that work in the early goings. A great read, does require some patience to get going.
