Audio Book Summary

Critically praised author Robyn Carr populates her "wonderful series [with] fully dimensional characters" (Booklist, starred review). In Shelter Mountain, a burly giant of a man discovers his tender side when his strength is needed most. Stone-faced Marine veteran John "Preacher" Middleton intimidates just about everyone who enters Jack's bar up in Virgin River-a tiny, rough-hewn town overshadowed by California's towering redwoods. But then in walks Paige, a distraught, battered young mother. From his days in combat, Preacher knows a crisis situation when he sees one, and Paige is a clear case. She's desperately seeking protection from her abusive, drug-addicted ex-husband. Stirred by emotions he's buried for years, Preacher promises (Semper Fidelis) to become Paige's guardian-and maybe something more. And Lord help the ex-husband should he dare stalk Paige on Preacher's turf. Acclaimed narrator Thérèse Plummer performs this second novel in Robyn Carr's beloved Virgin River series with dramatic poise.

Loved this book, a third in the series. So many times laughed out loud being by myself just listening to this book. I would recommend it to everyone. Love the plot and the connection to the previous two books in the series. Can’t wait to listen to the next one.❤️

a separate storyline but completely connected .. these books can have the same single man with woman who have different issues they have to save .. but still keeps you listening.. also over done on language once in a while... narrator needs to have more than 2 male voices for all books

Well written. Only criticism is Mel is a bit of a rude ball buster. At times Jack came off as "whipped". Marines are not that way. I know because I am one. In other words, the writer went a little overboard in having Mel come across as a strong woman.

Funny how long ago these books were written, so I feel like I'm a little late to the party. I was absolutely captivated by Jack and Mel's story and quickly sought to find if there was a sequel to Virgin River after I finished the first book, and now....I'm on book 3 "Whispering Rock" and I am so thrilled that one story builds on the next and I have plenty of Virgin River stories to keep me company when I commute to work. Good narration but I do wish she would have used different voices for each of the characters....they kind of all sound the same. I think Jack is my favorite of the cast of characters so far.
