As an avid Outlander/Gabaldon/Davina Porter fan, I was excited about this audio book. As always with Davina Porter, the narration is outstanding, immediately pulling you into the story. I think this novella started to touch on many of the mysteries related to Monsieur Raymond and le Counte St. Germaine and even hinted at revealing those much desired answers, but ultimately fell short in providing full answers. The main protagonist, Joan, is easily intriguing but, again, too many questions were left unanswered. Rather than revealing more about the Outlander world, this novella only created more mystery begging for clarity.

I enjoyed listening to this novella. Can't wait to listen to the next one. Major fan of Diana Gabaldon and the Outlander series.

I liked this short novella. It's nice to revisit characters like Remon, St. Germain, Sister Hildegard and Bouton, Jared, et al. Joan McKimmie and Michael Murray are promising characters -- but after being immersed in listening to the entire Outlander series for the past many months, everything seems so short! Seems like the plot and characters are just beginning to take shape when the whole thing is over. I was intrigued by the St. Germain character here; in Outlander he seemed like a complete villain, but here his character is more nuanced and ambiguous, less evil, more of simply a seeker trying to understand his own nature and the nature of the universe. It would be great to have a story focusing on him and Remon and others like them. This is worth the listen, but it leaves me wanting more. Perhaps that's inevitable in a novella following a work of such magnificent storytelling. The narrator Davina Porter is flawless, excellent, engaging, wonderful. I wish every narrator were of her caliber. I've yet to hear better.

Great to get some backstorids behind the outlander books as always fantastic reading

Being in the midst of my first “Droughtlander” I’ve been preoccupying myself with all of Diana’s novellas, and this is one of my favorites! Firstly, I’m just SO grateful Davina Porter has returned to narrate... no shade on the other narrators, but the magical combo of Diana’s clever writings and Davina’s ability to make the characters come to life is *chefs kiss* DIVINE! The main Outlander novels will forever be my favorites, but story-wise and execution-wise, this novella was a favorite! (A Fugitive Green is another top fave novella - both are highly recommended!) This one especially leaves some exciting hints that I’m hoping future Outlander books will explore more! :)
