Audio Book Summary

The New York Times bestseller that reveals the safety, security, and survival techniques that 99% of Americans don’t know—but should

When Jason Hanson joined the CIA in 2003, he never imagined that the same tactics he used as a CIA officer for counter intelligence, surveillance, and protecting agency personnel would prove to be essential in every day civilian life.

In addition to escaping handcuffs, picking locks, and spotting when someone is telling a lie, he can improvise a self-defense weapon, pack a perfect emergency kit, and disappear off the grid if necessary. He has also honed his “positive awareness”—a heightened sense of his surroundings that allows him to spot suspicious and potentially dangerous behavior—on the street, in a taxi, at the airport, when dining out, or in any other situation.

In his engaging and empowering book Spy Secrets That Can Save Your Life, Jason shares this know-how with readers, revealing how to:

   •  prevent home invasions, carjackings, muggings, and other violent crimes
   •  run counter-surveillance and avoid becoming a soft target
   •  recognize common scams at home and abroad
   •  become a human lie detector in any setting, including business negotiations
   •  gain peace of mind by being prepared for anything instead of uninformed or afraid

With the skill of a trained operative and the relatability of a suburban dad, Jason Hanson brings his top-level training to everyday Americans in this must-have guide to staying safe in an increasingly dangerous world.

Many helpful hints. Have a pen and paper ready to write down the websites mentioned.

Book had lots of great tips and suggestions. Things I could start using immediately and very effective. Well written and easy to follow along. But don't sign up for the "additional materials" as offered. Unbelievable amount of spam from very questionable sources. Had to get new email account because of it. Author offers free items for signing up but never came thru. Only scam sales and extreme conspiracy political propaganda from third parties (in spite of checking do not share my info).

I really loved this book and glad I brought it. One annoyance is the multiple websites which I couldn't note down as I listen when commuting. However I did learn very valuable information that's changed my behaviour. Added to my highly recommended list

This is the perfect book for someone who plans to vacation in Afghanistan. For those of us living quiet suburban lives the advice may seem over the top although interesting with a smattering of good ideas. Also the author is bit heavy on self-promotion.

I have used this book as a guide after teaching self defense classes myself. I have added in the escape methods he taught (of course doing them myself SEVERAL times first). As a woman, it is empowering! I am still assembling my jump/bug out bag yet having my Tac pen and getting to show other women what it can do... As well as my own feeling of safety... I would easily pay twice the amount for this book! Only 1 tiny down side is that I wish there was a Pdf file that went with the book and when you go to the website, I do not believe that the items he had to give away are still available.

very interesting book! in terms of general awareness and being 'on guard' (dont mistake this with paranoia!) it's taught me a lot and i will certainly take the advice on board! gives examples of what happened, when, and how it could've been different. well recommended, especially in this day and age with all the terrible people about!
