Audio Book Summary

Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their successes over and over?

People like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers might have little in com- mon, but they all started with why. Their natural ability to start with why enabled them to inspire those around them and to achieve remarkable things.

In studying the leaders who've had the greatest influence in the world, Simon Sinek discovered that they all think, act, and communicate in the exact same way-and it's the complete opposite of what everyone else does. Sinek calls this powerful idea The Golden Circle, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be led, and people can be inspired. And it all starts with WHY.

Any organization can explain what it does; some can explain how they do it; but very few can clearly articulate why. WHY is not money or profit-those are always results. Why does your organization exist? Why does it do the things it does? Why do customers really buy from one company or another? Why are people loyal to some leaders, but not others?
Starting with WHY works in big business and small business, in the nonprofit world and in politics.

Those who start with WHY never manipulate, they inspire. And people follow them not because they have to; they follow because they want to.

Drawing on a wide range of real-life stories, Sinek weaves together a clear vision of what it truly takes to lead and inspire. This book is for anyone who wants to inspire others or who wants to find someone to inspire them.

Very inspiring and helps me to think about my career. We live by following our habits and stop asking why. This book is a good reminder. I will recommend it to others.

Up until 30 minutes in, I'm locked onto it, all good stuff. After that, it's the same message rephrase and recurring over and over again so, tbh, first 30 minutes is all you really need, nothing new beyond that, sorry.

There are some good overall concepts here, but mainly it seems to be an ad for Apple. In fact, more than that, much of the subject matter is really talking about marketing, not leadership. He uses words like proof, sounding scientific, without actually providing any proof, just anecdotal evidence that supports his assertions. I like some of presentations I've seen from Simon, but this, quite frankly, misses the mark. Nobody I know that has an iPhone cares about the vision of Apple. They are just following the crowd... good marketing. Oh, and I've never used, or heard anyone else use, TiVo as a verb. We DVR things, and basically always have. Where did TiVo become a verb? So like I started with, the idea of having a why behind what you do is good, and I think it probably does make a good leader, but I don't think this book explains that very well.

Simon Sinek is a awesome narrator and very easy to listen to. The book was good and easy to understand. Could have had some actionable ideas in the book and it would have been even better.
