Audio Book Summary

“Spellbinding. Another outstanding novel by Kimberly Belle, masterfully written to lure you in and never let go.” — Samantha Downing, USA Today bestselling author of My Lovely Wife

When Charlotte married the wealthy widower Paul, it caused a ripple of gossip in their small lakeside town. They have a charmed life together, despite the cruel whispers about her humble past and his first marriage. But everything starts to unravel when she discovers a young woman’s body floating in the exact same spot where Paul’s first wife tragically drowned.

At first, it seems like a horrific coincidence, but the stranger in the lake is no stranger. Charlotte saw Paul talking to her the day before, even though Paul tells the police he’s never met the woman. His lie exposes cracks in their fragile new marriage, cracks Charlotte is determined to keep from breaking them in two.

As Charlotte uncovers dark mysteries about the man she married, she doesn’t know what to trust—her heart, which knows Paul to be a good man, or her growing suspicion that there’s something he’s hiding in the water.

I really enjoyed this book except the ending. I found Charlotte/Charlie’s reaction towards her husband unrealistic and annoying. I only deducted a star for that. Otherwise, it was a really good listen. Another good book by Kimberly Belle. Narration was good as well.

I don’t think I’ve ever been compelled to right a bad review until finishing this book. Not only was this an easy one to figure out but the end really annoyed me. Xe Sands is always a great narrator but the book not so great. Spoiler alert: Charlie/Charlotte’s self righteousness was infuriating! Her husband was the least copiable and his reasons were valid as far as I am concerned. His first wife died bc he told her so why would he then tell his pregnant wife? Then he does the right thing in the end and nope, doesn’t matter, he lied and that’s that. It wasn’t murder nor was he driving. It was vehicular manslaughter’s yes, but again, he wasn’t even driving! And him thinking it was Jax driving who also saved his life? Not his story to tell. Yes, the story should have come out right away but living with it all those years was stupid and obviously a worse punishment.

This is a good listen. Easy to figure out. Still a good listen. I am a commuter listener. so these types of books still make my commutes entertaining.
