Audio Book Summary

New York Times bestselling author Tana French, author of the forthcoming novel The Hunter, is “the most important crime novelist to emerge in the past 10 years” (The Washington Post) and “inspires cultic devotion in readers” (The New Yorker).

“Required reading for anyone who appreciates tough, unflinching intelligence and ingenious plotting.” —The New York Times

In the “compellingˮ (The Boston Globe) and “pitch perfectˮ (Entertainment Weekly) follow-up to Tana French’s runaway bestseller In the Woods, Cassie Maddox has transferred out of the Dublin Murder Squad—until an urgent telephone call brings her back to an eerie crime scene.

The victim looks exactly like Cassie and carries ID identifying herself as Alexandra Madison, an alias Cassie once used as an undercover cop. Suddenly, Cassie is back undercover, to find out not only who killed this young woman, but, more importantly, who she was.

The Likeness is a supremely suspenseful story exploring the nature of identity and belonging.

Just finished this book and quite the story! Enjoyed it very much and the narration was excellent too. I thought the story kept you guessing and I could not stop it when it got to the end. Had to finish it. While it was not important to the book, I enjoyed the narrator singing in the few parts it was mentioned in the book. Not only a talented narrator, but she has a very pretty singing voice too.

This is the second book I’ve read in the series. I love the detailed storytelling because it helps me paint a detailed image in my mind and the mystery and suspense keep me hooked. I think that in this book, however, the author focused a little too much on the character development instead of the mystery/case so it lost my attention a couple of times. It wasn’t quite as on the mark for me as the first book but still an interesting read and story.

Tana French is quickly becoming one of my favorite new authors. This is the 3rd book I’ve read of hers. She has such a unique perspective with interesting, compelling, and complex stories interwoven around people so real, you think you could touch them. Her stories feel like a combination of a standard mystery novel and a piece of literature. There were some spots where she had some very interesting perspectives on life and the triumphs and tragedies of it all which I found myself thinking about much longer after I had read the words. The narrator is excellent too. She brought the characters to life splendidly. I highly recommend.
