Audio Book Summary

An intoxicating debut novel of 'one motherless daughter's discovery of...the strange and wonderful places we find love' —The Washington PostSue Monk Kidd's ravishing debut novel has stolen the hearts of reviewers and readers alike with its strong, assured voice. Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily's fierce-hearted 'stand-in mother,' Rosaleen, insults three of the town's fiercest racists, Lily decides they should both escape to Tiburon, South Carolina—a town that holds the secret to her mother's past. There they are taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters who introduce Lily to a mesmerizing world of bees, honey, and the Black Madonna who presides over their household. This is a remarkable story about divine female power and the transforming power of love—a story that women will share and pass on to their daughters for years to come.

harming is the perfect word for this book. I also listened to the audio and miss Jenna Lamia was absolutely adorable to listen to. A story of heartbreak and wonder. Set in 1964 when segregation was in full swing. The story follows Lily Owen's and her nanny help maid Rosaleen. Lily is troubled my a mother who's death seems a mystery and a father who cant find it in his heart to love her. Her and Rosaleen find themselves in a world of trouble and take off for Tiburon,SC. With only a photo of the Black Mary her mother gave her. In search of the truth and who her mother was she finds an extraordinary charming cast of women called the Boatwrights who will brighten your soul Charming and funny witty and sad. I loved so much about this book yet there were parts that lagged and lacked the luster other parts gave it. An easy read that will warm your heart!

I read Sue Monk Kidd’s second book, The Invention of Wings, before reading The Secret Life of Bees — I loved both of them and can’t wait to read more by this author. I thought the narrator did an excellent job.

I really did enjoy this book. If u liked “The Help” this is the same type of southern American feel but a different yet just as interesting story. I found it very hard to stop listening to and had it finished in 2 days. I enjoyed the narration of the book also finding it a pleasant voice with good expectation.

Loved the book and the narration was excellent. The whole thing flowed deliciously and was so clever in the way it revealed how we hide the truth from ourselves. The pace was excellent- let one grow into the story as Lily developed as a person. Reminded me of 'to kill a mockingbird ' in its setting and timing. Loved it!
