Audio Book Summary

This bestselling and innovative debut novel from Audrey Niffenegger explores the perfect marriage, one that is tested by challenges the couple can neither control nor predict. An imaginative extension of everyday life, the story asks: What if two people who loved each other deeply, married, and faced a life in which one person remained constant while the other slipped fluidly in and out of time?

A modern love story with a twist that invites us to linger over questions of how life and love change over time.

I'll say this for the audio version of The Time Traveler's Wife--the reading was excellent. Both actors were easy to understand and read the book in an engaging way. In fact, I would say that listening to the novel is superior to reading the book. The novel is supposed to jump back and forth between Claire and Henry's perspective, only the writing is so poor that, from dialogue alone, I would often forget who the subject was. On the audio version it's easy to keep track because a woman reads Claire's chapters while a man reads Henry's. I found the book itself dreadful--it's a mediocre chicklit-esque romance novel dressed up with time travel to try to be something more than it is. Both characters are utterly unlikable--snobbish, pseudo-intellectuals who act with complete disdain and disregard for everyone else in their lives. I have no idea why this book became so popular. But, if it's made your list of "Must Reads" I would argue for the audio version over the written any day.

What a disappointment. Instead of something fantastic like its title and the book's recent popularity implies, The Time Traveler's Wife is nothing more than a glorified Harlequin romance. The plot twist of a genetically doomed time traveling husband is initially interesting, but the plot is monotonous and the characters are painfully shallow. The story drags on forever and is a total waste of time.

Made a decision to not finish this. It’s quite confusing as any time travel plot seems to be but I felt uncomfortable with some of the scenes in particular when he meets himself as a teenager and they ….. you can fill in the blanks! Also uncomfortable with the grown man version meeting his future wife as a little girl. Just didn’t sit right. The male reader is ok but the woman has a terrible winey American voice So be warned . Far better books out there.

I nodded my head in agreement. I laughed. I cried. Interesting concept for the story and very well written. Very clear narration easy to understand even for not so fluent listeners.

I was disappointed in this book. It was boring and really had no point to the story other than the time travel that just seemed random jumping in and out of his own life. He never tried to fix or do anything other than be a downer.
