Audio Book Summary

When Lauren and Ryan's marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes. Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren's ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?

I thoroughly enjoyed this! There were a few things that hit home because marriage will not always be about the good times, there will be lulls, and in those lulls you might forget how much you care about the other person. Laurens rollercoaster emotions seemed very relatable given the circumstance she and Ryan put themselves through. There were times I wanted to shake both of them and tell them to cut it out and quit the B.S! Lol. But that's what makes a good love story right? when you feel connected to the characters? The narrator made Lauren sound adorable too, like I wanted to shake her at times but also give her cupcakes and say "its ok honey." I think if it had been another narrator then I may have been really annoyed with Lauren but in this case it really made the character come to life. Definitely recommend. Some great points to take away from it if you're married or even struggling in a relationship.
