Audio Book Summary

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author known for her “superb pacing, twisted characters, and captivating prose” (BuzzFeed), Lisa Jewell returns with a scintillating new psychological thriller about a woman who finds herself the subject of her own popular true crime podcast.

Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins.

A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix’s children’s school. Josie has been listening to Alix’s podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life.

Josie’s life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can’t quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. Slowly she starts to realize that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it, Josie has inveigled her way into Alix’s life—and into her home.

But, as quickly as she arrived, Josie disappears. Only then does Alix discover that Josie has left a terrible and terrifying legacy in her wake, and that Alix has become the subject of her own true crime podcast, with her life and her family’s lives under mortal threat.

Who is Josie Fair? And what has she done?

If you want a book that you can stop listening to and won't be able to guess anything that is going on.... this book is for you! WOW!! Creepy, yet sad. Solid characters and the narration was one of the very best. I was hooked from the first paragraph. This is one of the best books I've had for a long while.

This is a real page-turner of a story with a solid plot, good character development and a great narrator. I have read most of Lisa Jewel's books and have enjoyed them all. One caviat, this is a truly good thriller but I found it almost disturbingly dark - definitely more dark than any of Jewels' other works that I have read. I expect that she will write a follow-up to this book because although there is resolution at the end, there is a lot of room for a follow-up.

Lisa Jewell knows how to engage a reader. Suspenseful and unique with the podcast bits added in.

The narration was excellent. I felt like I was watching a suspenseful TV series. However, I usually find Lisa Jewell's books quick reading and fun & engaging characters from the start. This one dragged a little for me. Thats why I gave it a 4 star rating. The characters and plot were a bit boring. But I enjoyed the twists toward the end and the suspense that led up to it. I also thought that the podcast with interviews was a creative way to really engage the reader. A fun read!

I did not like the book. It was just not my type of read. The podcast story line with interviews during the read was just dumb!! Hopefully I don't come across this style again. Besides who would let a complete stranger dictate their home life? Just dumb.....
