Audio Book Summary

Paul Greci's The Wild Lands is a pulse-pounding YA thriller full of shocking plot twists. It’s the ultimate survival tale of humanity’s fight against society’s collapse.

Natural disasters and a breakdown of civilization have cut off Alaska from the world and destroyed its landscape. Now, as food runs out and the few who remain turn on each other, Travis and his younger sister, Jess, must cross hundreds of miles in search of civilization.

The wild lands around them are filled with ravenous animals, desperate survivors pushed to the edge, and people who’ve learned to shoot first and ask questions never.

Travis and Jess will make a few friends and a lot of enemies on their terrifying journey across the ruins of today’s world—and they’ll have to fight for what they believe in as they see how far people will go to survive.

An Imprint Book

“This fast-paced book contains all the hallmarks of a classic wilderness survival novel (deadly terrain, vicious predators, literal cliff-hangers) and the best of the postapocalyptic genre ... The author’s decades of Alaskan wilderness experience is evident throughout ... A great high-stakes wilderness survival tale.” —School Library Journal

“Heart-thumping suspense for readers who liked Rick Yancey's The 5th Wave.”—Booklist

There were things I really liked about this book - and a few things that left me... unsatisfied. Für the ones who are not into lengthy reviews: Overall it was a gripping read with interesting characters and if YA dystopias are your thing you'll definitely find entertainment. The plus-side: I am usually not into male -centered/-authored books, but the main character has very little toxic male traits and sexism towards women - e.g. rape culture, non-consent - is brought up throughout the story. Yeh - that's something that IS very important for me. The author really knows his stuff regarding landscapes and the setting is really well described. I also liked the family-of-choice that is formed. There are a few to many twists and turns in the story, that become (even though very different) somewhat repetitive and leave a lot of loose ends. Which is probably the biggest disappointment: the end feels very abrupt and leaves one least me. My major pet peeve in story telling culture is the unavoidable tragic teen from the Care-System. Not to spoil, but there's more than one from this category.. Nonetheless a great book. If there is ever a part two, to solve at least half of the open questions, I'd really enjoy it. P.S.: CN for a lot of death, violence and descriptions of (sexual) assault, animal farm and delusional behavior

The story was interesting enough but the narrator was a bit boring in his presentation. The actual writing was at times too drawn out as though the Author was teaching a bunch of first graders. There was way too much unnecessary description not leaving anything to the readers imagination. LIke some of the other comments, the ending is so abrupt that is as though the Author got tired of writing and could not wait to finish.

I enjoyed this book! I had a free VIP credit and used it on this title. I knew right away it was a teen-type book. I didn’t mind because I could listen to it around the kids without my earbuds. My kids seemed to enjoy it as well! They would ask me what Travis and his sister were up to now. I put his second book in my wish list. The narration was great!!

The story was ok but nothing special. Narrator did a pretty good job but I kept laughing because Max sounded like a breathy ingenue from an old black and white movie.

Loved the characters and the back story. Well written and moved at a decent pace. Only knock was the ending was a little lack luster. All in all, 4 out of 5
